Welcome to the new site! I hope you like it half as much as I do.
Here's some of what is different, in case you're curious:
The site is (now) significantly more optimized for mobile. I realized awhile back that most of you visit on phones rather than PCs/laptops and the old form was starting to show its age there. Sure, the theme was kept up-to-date, but everything running "underneath" it was getting less and less functional. Which is a long way of saying I was wasting more and more time every month trying to make Wordpress (old format) do what I wanted.
I've switched to a completely different content system (Drupal, though I tested several others as well) to get a more streamlined process and functional website. It was easy to optimize for mobile, easy to allow for large media uploads, easy to add extra features, and (most importantly) easy to see ways to improve the site. Being able to radically alter the color palette and presentation on a whim is also a nice plus.
Things are now significantly more secure (0 to 100, quite literally) and I can attach playlists without "hacks." The site operates better on mobile devices, sure, but it's also more streamlined for PCs as well. I can start producing restricted-access (read: Patron-only) content, and I can alter the way analytics run at the base level (in the pursuit of abandoning Google Analytics altogether, in favor of more privacy-friendly methods.)
I'll be tweaking all of this as we go, but the vast majority of the work is done. The hard part was migrating from a system that has become largely proprietary in nature to one that is highly open and customizable. In short, I switched all of the content over "by hand" which was, suffice it to say, pretty tedious. The coding and development has been, aside from some frustrating moments, delightfully straightforward.
The majority of how this place operates now should seem familiar enough not to be jarring, but if you do have any questions or comments - don't hesitate. The only major thing I've "lost" was the old newsletter setup, which was helpful for those who don't visit regularly...but it's a fairly small loss, considering the benefits gained. Plus, I should be able to replicate that functionality before long.
Now that all of this is done, I will be focusing on new content for you to enjoy. Thanks for being so patient with me during the whole process, I really do appreciate it. I hope it will be worth the wait.
Until then.
